How to Survive the 2013 Beer Bourbon & BBQ Festival

February 20, 2013 By Spencer

Beer Bourbon and BBQ Festival

Well folks, it's back and I'm already hydrating in preparation. The Beer Bourbon & BBQ Festival was easily one of top highlights of 2012 for me. Or at least I think it was (still a little hazy). After a sellout crowd in 2012, the show geniuses at BB&BBQ have upped the ante. In order to survive this year's fest I have a few tips. Tip #1: If VIP tickets are available, GET THEM! BB&BBQ has expanded this feature of the show to include a bigger tent and more exclusive tasting … [Read more...]

Atlanta’s Newest Brewery: Monday Night Brewing

February 4, 2013 By Spencer

Get ready Atlanta, Monday nights just got a lot more fun. “Tie one on” and head over to the Westside to check out the spanking new Monday Night Brewery. In an old warehouse at the bottom of Trabert Avenue sit three gents making some killer brews. Monday Night Brewing is the brainchild of Jonathan Baker, Jeff Heck and Joel Iverson, who started making home-brews after a weekly bible study pre-2006. It took a while to get to this point, but when you walk around the space and listen to the guys … [Read more...]

5 Ways to Give Back in Atlanta

November 21, 2012 By Kevin Ekmark

downtown Atlanta

Do Something Great for Someone in ATL Thanksgiving often gives me the opportunity to look back and think about how blessed I am. I would imagine that the majority of you do the same. Unfortunately, it's also a crazy time of year and I can easily become consumed with myself. It's easy to forget that there are families out there that won't have a Thanksgiving dinner, and there are kids that won't have presents on Christmas morning. In fact, there are kids in Atlanta who are being sold into … [Read more...]

Small Batch Coffee Roasting in Thomasville, GA

March 17, 2012 By Kevin Ekmark

Grassroots Coffee Thomasville

Coffee, like wine or whiskey, is created through an artful process.  While you can find a coffee shop on nearly every corner of any metro city, it is rare to run into a coffee shop that also roasts their beans in house.  This process, if you have ever been lucky enough to witness it, requires the skill of a master roaster.  When I heard about Megan and Spencer Young's coffee shop, Grassroots Coffee, in the historical, southern town of Thomasville, Georgia, I couldn't help but ask this young … [Read more...]

Spring Time Is Perfect for a SweetWater Brewery Visit

March 7, 2012 By Kevin Ekmark

sweetwater brewing company

SweetWater Brewing Company just celebrated their 15th anniversary, and they are due some thanks for sparking the craft brewing business to Georgia.  If you live in Georgia, you can't go to a restaurant these days without running into a SweetWater brew on the beer list.  There's good reason for this fact; it's damn good beer.  Enjoying their beer at dinner, the tailgate, or watching football at home is only part of the SweetWater experience. If you are a local, or visiting Atlanta, you … [Read more...]

Atlanta Beer Festivals Spring 2012

One of the best things about the weather warming up in the south is that it's festival season.  Some of the best festivals revolve around refreshing adult beverages.  The Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival kicked things off in Atlanta, and now its time to welcome the next few festivals.  Here are four beer festivals around Atlanta that you won't want to miss this spring. The Holy Grail of Festivals: Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival

March 2, 2012 By Spencer

Beer Bourbon and BBQ Festival

Brace yourselves Atlanta. The Beer, Bourbon, & BBQ Festival has finally arrived. BB&BBQ combines 3 festivals in one for 3 times the goodness. Atlanta as a city seems to embrace any excuse to throw a outdoor party for people to gather and day drink, but this one is a whole other animal. The festival website says it best: “Join us at the festival for a great day of beer sippin', bourbon tastin', music listenin', cigar smokin', and barbeque eatin'. Your admission buys you a sampling … [Read more...]

A Grand Old Party with Old Try + Fallen Arrows

February 27, 2012 By Kevin Ekmark

Prints sold by Old Try

Two of our favorite Southern companies are throwing A Grand Old Party in Atlanta, Georgia and they want to celebrate with you.  We're pretty excited because one of our very own monthly contributors, Micah of Old Try, will be making his way to the ATL. If you haven't heard of Old Try yet, you can read up on them in one of their most recent shout outs from Garden & Gun.  Old Try is half of the great duo throwing this party for all of y'all. Fallen Arrows is the other half.  They are a … [Read more...]

Feeling Lucky in Atlanta – St. Patrick’s Day Events

February 22, 2012 By Kevin Ekmark

St Patrick's Day in Atlanta

We take our St. Patrick's Day events pretty seriously around here.  St. Patty's Day parties can be found throughout the entire city of Atlanta, but there are a few in particular which you might want to wander your way over to this year.  One of the reasons why I love the coming of St. Patrick's Day events is because it typically kicks off the Atlanta spring events schedule. That means more festivals, outdoor music, races, and etc.... Basically, it means a lot of beer, food, art, and the … [Read more...]
