Growlers are the hot new thing in the craft beer industry right now. Folks love to get a 64 oz jug of quality craft beers on tap to go. Depending on the beer, you are paying anywhere from $8 to $12 to fill your jar. Typically, it's a great deal for quality craft beer. The first time that I had ever heard of growlers making their way to the Atlanta area is when The Beer Growler in Athens, GA opened up. They were the first growler filling station in Georgia, and set the bar for everyone … [Read more...]
Spring Time Is Perfect for a SweetWater Brewery Visit
SweetWater Brewing Company just celebrated their 15th anniversary, and they are due some thanks for sparking the craft brewing business to Georgia. If you live in Georgia, you can't go to a restaurant these days without running into a SweetWater brew on the beer list. There's good reason for this fact; it's damn good beer. Enjoying their beer at dinner, the tailgate, or watching football at home is only part of the SweetWater experience. If you are a local, or visiting Atlanta, you … [Read more...]

Here are four beer festivals around Atlanta that you won't want to miss this spring. Beer Festivals Brew Your Cask Off - March 10, 2012 - Atlanta, GA: Cask ale is an extremely unique beer. 2nd Annual Suwanee American Craft Beer Festival
It's great to see the world of craft beer exploding in the South. Metro Atlanta, in particular, has been falling in love with the art of craft beer. Look at all of the amazing new breweries and festivals popping up. The rest of the South hasn't been immune to all of the buzz around the art of creating beer, either. However, this is not about the rest of the South. This is all about a brand new festival coming back for round two in 2012. The Suwanee American Craft Beer Festival is … [Read more...]
The Red Hare Brewing Company Experience
As of today, I have experienced the Red Hare Brewing Company brewery tour twice, and each time I have learned something completely new. Over the past few years, I have experienced my fair share of brewery tours, and these have been by far the best so far. If you aren't from Georgia, I'll clue you in to a little Peach State secret located in Marietta, GA. Red Hare Brewing Co is one of the newest craft breweries in Metro Atlanta. The brewery is basically run by the owners, Roger Davis and … [Read more...]
Heavy Seas Loose Cannon
Nothing goes better with aged beef than an American IPA. Tonight, I chose to pick up a beer that straddles the Mason Dixon line. The Heavy Seas Loose Cannon forever solidifies Maryland as a Southern state in my mind. Loose Cannon is an easy going beer. It's exceptionally smooth. The citrus notes mellow out the bitter hops taste, which makes it a very drinkable beer. The spices, hops, and citrus notes are extremely well blended. It is well balanced, and can be enjoyed during any season … [Read more...]
Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 – The Rum for Whiskey Drinkers
When most people think of rum they think of beaches, little umbrellas and possibly Jack Sparrow. Rum has been pigeonholed as a girly drink for years, but has recently been making a comeback. I have noticed premium rum drinks showing up on drink menus and even some of my most hardcore whiskey-drinking friends have started stocking it at home. As a person who loves bourbon and scotch, I always thought rum was liquor that needed to be mixed with something. I wrote it off as a spirit that … [Read more...]

Natty Greene’s Buckshot Amber Ale by the Growler
We shuffled our way into the car, half asleep, eyes barely open, coffee deprived, but anxious for what the Memorial Day weekend had in store for us. Originally when we had plotted our course, we had made plans to stop by Greensboro, North Carolina on our way to Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia. Those plans were made using Google Maps the night before, which the TomTom GPS clearly did not agree with, because we were about 30 miles West of the city by the time we realized that we would be … [Read more...]
Tapping the Terrapin “Indiana Krunkles”
This past Wednesday, I was scanning over The Trot Line Twitter feed, and I noticed an interesting post by Terrapin Beer Company. They had announced that they would be tapping one of the first casks of their side project beer, "Indiana Krunkles" at The Fred. After the initial excitement of a new Terrapin beer getting tapped (and me knowing where,) I was brought back to reality after remembering that I had already made plans that night. Like a responsible adult, I decided to head on over to … [Read more...]
